This section presents the interviews conducted for the Deliberately Concealed Garments Project oral history programme. Interviews are conducted with researchers, those who have found concealed objects and conservators. As the programme continues more interviews will be conducted.

Interview with Brian Hoggard

Brian Hoggard has conducted independent research into deliberately concealed objects and publishes some of his finding on his website Apotropaios. Interview with Mrs Maynard

Whilst gutting and rebuilding their house 22 years ago, the Maynards found a group of objects concealed in and behind one of the bedroom walls. These comprised a velvet waistcoat, a stomacher and some paper patterns and also a cat skeleton. What follows is a summary of an interview conducted on 4 March 2002, with Mrs Maynard, who discovered the cache, which she has kindly lent to the Winchester Museum. Continue reading

Sue Stanton interviewed about the Reigate Doublet

Sue Stanton is a textile conservator at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. She worked on a doublet that had been found concealed during the final year of her Textile Conservation diploma, at The Textile Conservation Centre, in 1990. The doublet was found by Mr Stoneman in Reigate, Surrey. What follows is a summary of an interview conducted on 5 March 2002, with Sue Stanton. Continue reading
